Sarah Williams, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Penrith & The Border
The local Labour Party is very pleased to announce that Sarah Williams has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the Penrith & The Border constituency. Sarah has been a member of the Labour Party for all of her adult life and, from a young age, campaigned in local and national elections in the Penrith and the Border constituency.
Sarah was brought up in Wigton where she attended primary and secondary school before studying Engineering at Hull University. As a committed and accomplished musician, she then moved on to the Royal Academy of Music to study for a diploma in performance and has since worked as a freelance musician and music teacher for over 20 years. As well as working with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra, she has played in a huge variety of West End shows including Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables and has collaborated with many jazz and pop artists such as Tony Bennett, Jamie Cullum, Tom Jones, Lulu and Dannii Minogue.
Sarah is an energetic Labour activist whose experience includes being elected to the National Executive of the Musician’s Union in 2016 and election as a Haringey Councillor in 2018 where she chairs the Labour Group. She is also a tireless campaigner and has, for example, worked in support of the Anti-Academies Alliance and shared in the setting up of the ‘Fair Funding for All’ school’s funding campaign.
Sarah is thrilled to have been selected to stand in her home constituency and is looking forward to campaigning with the support of her parents and sister, who live in Wigton.
